Hydrophobic Lenses

Hydrophobic IOL are made from material with 1-2% of water content having unique posterior edge design without compromising inherent optical properties of intra ocular lens.

High index of refraction imparts excellent folding prior to insertion; better, controlled unfolding and positioning of lens in the eye. Minimal internally reflected glare, less surface scattering compared to other hydrophobic surface IOLs. Thinner lens which require smaller incision i.e. sub. 2.65mm.

High Tensile Strength - this resists the optic damage during folding and insertion.

Below: Transmission scan shows blue light blocking property (in region 400 - 500nm) compared to conventional IOL with UV absorber.

Conventional IOLs with UV absorber are not able to protect the retina from dangerous high energy blue light. High energy blue light is a part of visible light spectrum which has great role in formation of age related Macular Degeneration (AMD).

Eyecryl Plus Natural Yellow hydrophobic IOL has a cross linked blue light filter in addition to UV aborber. Protective properties of these lenses resemble those offered by natural human lens.

These lenses demonstrate excellent visual outcomes without altering the colour perception and contrast sensitivity of a patient.

Biotech hydrophobic Intra Ocular Lenses are made from material with 1-2% of water content having unique posterior edge design without compromising the inherent optical properties of Intra Ocular lens. The UV absorbing properties are similar to Eyecryl hydrophilic lenses.

High index of refraction:

High index of refraction imparts excellent folding prior to insertion; better, controlled unfolding and positioning of lens in the eye; minimal internally reflected glare; less surface scattering compared to other hydrophobic IOLs; thinner lens which requires smaller incision i.e. Sub 2.65 mm.

High Tensile Strength:

This resists optic damage during folding and insertion

Excellent cytological and biocampatible properties:
  • Effect on the blood aqueous barrier: Biotech Hydrophobic Lens is recommended in patients with pathologies predisposing to blood aqueous barrier damage
  • The cellular reaction on the lens surface: 360° Sq. edge design reduces potential for lens epithelial cell migration on to posterior capsule. Eyecryl Plus hydrophobic lens has Minimal affinity towards lens epithelial cell outgrowth and slow maturaton rate reaction of macrophages providing excellent biological compatibility thus leads to a little or nil inflammatory reaction
  • Effect on the lens capsule: The effect of the IOL on the capsule consists of lens epithelial cell proliferation and metaplasia leading to anterior and posterior capsular opacification , and IOL decentration.
  • Eyecryl Plus Hydrophobic Lens has excellent capsular biocompatibiliy (because of the tacky nature of lens material the lens has increased adhesion of the IOL to The capsule) than hydrophillic material and decreased incidents of PCO and IOL decentration.
